The Ateneo Student Catholic Action is a student organization which hopes to direct the growth of its members towards service for otheres based on their Christian faith and ideals, on their Filipino spirit, and on the pursuit of truth through liberal education. "Ateneo" - we are an Ateneo based organization - we have the ideals of being an Atenean - we are formed through Ignatian Spirituality
“Student” - we are first and foremost students
“Catholic” - we are NOT EXCLUSIVELY Catholic, rather we have the catholic ideals and values. (ie we read and study scriptures, we pray, go to mass, etc.)
“Action” - an Ignatian form of service
“hopes” -there is a looking forward for something long term and not necessary immediate
“growth” -it means each member is constantly growing -growth is always a dialectic, a two way process for the formator and member
“growth of members towares service for others" -means we are not limited to the formation of our members, but rather it is through that formation that we are able to give back to others
“others” - indirectly this applies to our fellowmen
“Filipino spirit” -values of being a Filipino -“bayanihan” = bayani + anihan -We are courageous, we have yield what we have planted -We have hope for our country, we are knowledgeble of our society
"Liberal Education" -unbiased education -education not confined in the classroom -broad and objective/critical point of view -we are in pursuit of truth and knowledge -also comes from liberal theology which indicates God’s preferrential option for the poor, social justice, the rights and dignity of our fellowmen
The Ateneo Student Catholic Action is an organization composed of young men and women unified by faith who strive for the promotion of service and social justice. It aims to give its members the fullest possible growth as responsive Filipinos through prayer, apostolate work and social awareness.
